Colours Awards/Nominations 2025
COLOURS AWARDS at BEATH HS
Beath celebrates achievement in many ways, one of which is through the Colours awards. These awards are for S4 to S6 pupils who go above and beyond the expectations of the normal school day. To be eligible for a Colours award a pupil must be in S4-S6 and have met the relevant criteria to the satisfaction of the Colours Committee. There are five categories of Colours awards that can be applied for:
- Academic: Awarded in August to any young person who achieved top grades in all SQA exams (these Colours are automatically awarded at the Awards Ceremony after the Summer).
- Citizenship: The young person should have made a significant contribution to the community – at school, local, wider or global level. This can be achieved through a variety of volunteering roles.
- Performing Arts: Where the opportunity arises, the young person should have performed with distinction at regional and/ or national level in any area of the Performing Arts. If studying music the young person should have achieved a Grade 4 or above. The young person should have attended more than 80% of available activity sessions/ rehearsals.
- Personal Achievement: This will be awarded at the discretion of the committee in recognition of a young person who has overcome a personal barrier and has shown considerable commitment, but who does not meet the criteria for any other Award outlined above.
- Sports: Where the opportunity arises, the young person should have performed with distinction at regional and/or national level/competition. This can be awarded for any sport, within or out with school. For in school extra-curricular sports the young person should have attended more than 80% of the activity sessions and when applicable represented the school in more than 75% of events, competitions or fixtures.
To be awarded Colours a Young Person must complete a Nomination Form (attached). Paper copies can be found in the Guidance Hub, Music base and PE Department base. The closing date for handing Nomination Forms in is Friday 04 April 2025. Forms should be handed in to Niamh in the Guidance Hub reception.
Beath High School is committed to equity, and all applications are treated respectfully and with regard to an individual’s circumstances. The Colours Committee will have as its membership a member of the school’s Senior Leadership Team and a minimum of four members of staff. The Rector will also be consulted regarding the final decision on all awards.
In order to achieve an award, the young person must have demonstrated a positive attitude towards staff and fellow pupils in the activity as well as in school life in general. It is expected they will have conducted themselves in a manner concurrent with the spirit of the award and will be a positive role model through their behaviour, attendance and punctuality.
The Colours Ceremony takes place on Friday 30 May 2025 at 1400 in the Assembly Hall.
